5 Star Active Announce Britain's Leading Female Jockey as an Ambassador
5 Star Active Announce Hayley as an ambassador Turner at Kia Oval, we went along to find out more; we are proud to share and support this dynamic programme that is not just London focussed but is national and international in its reach and influence.

Her reasons for becoming an ambassador are clear and she is quoted as saying;

"I am not from a massively wealthy background or related to anyone in horse racing to have a 'leg up' – I've done it all from scratch and on my own. The young people I will be working with are in the same position; having to make their lives on their own. I've been in the same position and I want to show and encourage them that whatever they want to do in life it can all be done".

The purpose of the launch is to highlight that 5 Star Active is a formal network partnerships of cutting-edge 'Sport for Development' charities delivering services to young people managed by the award-winning Active Communities Network.

What do they do, how and why?

This is a partnership of like-minded organisations that have come together to engage, mentor and support young people, within their local neighbourhoods, how they do this is set out clearly in their mission which is to "tackle poverty, create opportunities, and inspire change". The 5 Star Active Partnership is a solution built on evidence and experience, which is fast becoming a key driving force addressing the youth crime, education and employment agendas.

They are firm in their stated belief that, "young people are future, they are the future and not the cause" the inference being that young people from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds are all too often stigmatised and viewed as a burden whereas it is our belief that of 5 Star Active Partnership they are an untapped resource that can become active participants, leaders and positive drivers for personal growth, development and change in the social mix and enrich society.

Jo Calvino, GB weightlifter and trustee of 5 Star Active was also in attendance and spoke eloquently on her experiences, her drive, her passion, how it developed and how she came to succeed in a largely male dominated sport.

Her insight, drive and passion is a truly inspirational pathway for impressionable youngsters which we will be looking to follow up on in the not too distant future.

Both Hayley and Jo are inspirational to youngsters that they and 5 Star Active are using to promote and develop pathways which is the launch purpose to publicise 5 Star Active Partnership and its overall objective which is "to work together to support children and young people to broaden their horizons, raise aspirations and provide pathways to achievement".

We at WhereIts@London are happy to promote 5 Star Active, we are happy to support their work and publicise the great work they do and we will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
