A New Mayor for London: A New Beginning?
W e’d like to congratulate Sadiq Khan for his outstanding victory for London.  Its a victory for London because given the nature of the campaign run by person or persons whom shall remain nameless, the electorate of London saw through the negativity and decided on what they saw as the better proposition for leading the greatest city on Earth

We could be biased in calling London the greatest city on Earth, but there is a lot of truth in that which we state. There is no city like London, there are great cities elsewhere but they are not London.

Its culture, its history, its diversity, its tolerance in the face of adversity, its welcoming nature, its ability to morph and adapt.

Needless to say it hasn’t always been like that. London has become the great global city of the 21st century not because of or in spite of its history and diversity, its a combination of all of the above.

There are many out there that debate the where and why for of Britain’s role in the world, in days of old and today. Some would argue that the Imperial hang over is something to be ashamed of or for something that which should be apologised for by the elite. The old imperial argument will not cease, as to whether it was a good or bad thing. No empire in history has had a holier than thou past.

The chequered history and debate of a time judged with a mindset of 21st century education and understanding is folly.

What we can celebrate is the fact that, even after all the mudslinging, the history, the arguments for and against Empire.  The fact is undeniable, that the capital city of the UK voted as their leader, a Pakistani immigrant Muslim son of a bus driver from a council estate in south London with a personal mandate thats never been matched in its history.

What does that say about us as Londoners?

What does that say about Britain in the wider context?

What does that say to the rest of the world?

Even in the face of ever greater threats from extremism and terrorism, London will overcome and see beyond the mudslinging and party politicking and vote for a representative that is the embodiment of London today. Not just the London of old but the London a new!
