1. What is your organisation doing to promote small business and enterprise in your borough?

Hammersmith & Fulham (H&F) council through its Business Desk provides a wide range of support and information to promote SME's. This includes: Hammersmith & Fulham means business event: an opportunity for businesses to network and promote their goods and services.

2. Where can entrepreneurs access frontline services to business advice, guidance and support immediately?

H &F Business Desk provides a telephone and email information service for SME's. This also includes signposting to specialist advice and support services. The Business Desk can be contacted by telephone on 020 8753 5585,

During the period March 2103 - January 2104 the Business Desk has dealt with 1,499 enquiries from SME's

3. Have you got a policy for encouraging start ups? If so, please elaborate?

H&F prides itself as a borough that is open and friendly to businesses. It recognises the importance of business to the local economy and in particular in creating jobs for people in the borough. In total, there are 17,000 businesses in the borough that generate £9.3bn for the local economy. H&F work hard to ensure a positive environment for these businesses and encourage new ones to set up within the borough. As part of it's commitment H&F has appointed one of its local councillor as a Business Champion whose role is to give a voice to the local business community in council discussions.

Also H&F has establish an Enterprise Club: a monthly entrepreneurs' event where previous presentations have included: preparing a business plan, use of social media and sales and marketing. As a result of our sterling work with Small and Medium sized Businesses, H&F won the London Councils and The Federation of Small Businesses 'highly commended' 2013 award for being the best all round small business friendly borough in London.

4, Are there any empty retail spaces that could be accessed to provide discounted market testing for start-ups?

5. Do you have a rent or rate free period to attract new business to your local high streets?

H &F will implement the Department for Communities and Local Government directive by providing a business rates discount of up to £1,000 to all occupied retail properties with a rateable value of £50,000 or less in each of the years 2014 to 2015 and 2015 to 2016.
